President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta Raphael Bostic stated on Monday that he expects that the easing of the Fed's asset purchases could begin in the October-to-December period this year, but that optimistic upcoming employment data reports could expedite such plans.

A continued improvement of the economic situation in the country could lead to interest rate hikes in late 2022, he also told reporters.

Speaking about the potential impact of the Delta coronavirus strain, Bostic commented that it could result in a deceleration of economic growth, but not in a contraction of the economy, as it is not expected to cause lockdowns such as those seen in 2020.
