Federal Reserve Governor Adriana D. Kugler stated on Tuesday that she perceived adequate starting to move toward a loosened monetary policy later in 2024 if data keeps showing a disinflation process.
"As I have discussed in recent remarks if economic conditions continue to evolve in this favorable manner with more rapid disinflation, as evidenced in the inflation data of the past three months, and employment softening but remaining resilient as seen in the past few jobs reports, I anticipate that it will be appropriate to begin easing monetary policy later this year," she said speaking in Washington.
In addition, she noted that under her criteria, it would be better to cut interest rates "sooner than later," but if inflation goes away from the 2% target then it would be necessary to hold rates.
