Shanghai posts its highest COVID caseload

The number of people who tested positive for the coronavirus in the city of Shanghai over the past day landed at 17,077, marking the highest daily figure the Chinese financial hub reported since the beginning of the pandemic.

The figure comes a day after the 26 million-large population entered a new coronavirus lockdown, imposed after testing saw asymptomatic COVID-19 cases surge.
