The International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced on Friday it is canceling Formula One Russian Grand Prix amid that country's invasion of Ukraine.
"We are watching the developments in Ukraine with sadness and shock and hope for a swift and peaceful resolution to the present situation," the association said. "On Thursday evening Formula 1, the FIA, and the teams discussed the position of our sport, and the conclusion is [...] that it is impossible to hold the Russian Grand Prix in the current circumstances."
The announcement comes the same day the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) confirmed the 2021–22 Champions League final has been relocated from Saint Petersburg to Paris.
