Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced on Monday its latest generation of artificial intelligence (AI) chip, Blackwell, which is set to revolutionize AI model operations and reinforce Nvidia's role as a central supplier in the AI boom.

Announced at Nvidia's developer conference in San Jose, the GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchip represents the pinnacle of the new generation. It features dual B200 graphics processors and an Arm-based central processor. The chip is expected to deliver a massive leap in AI performance, offering 20 petaflops compared to the 4 petaflops of its predecessor, the H100.

Designed specifically for transformers-based AI, a critical component of technologies like ChatGPT, Blackwell is poised to enable the training of larger, more sophisticated models. Cloud services giants, including Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Oracle, will offer access to the GB200. The first chip in the Blackwell series is expected to ship later this year.
