French health authorities announced on Tuesday that the number of coronavirus infections in the country surged by 179,807 in the last 24 hours, more than 70,000 above its previous single-day record increase.
The data showed that the number of deaths attributed to the virus rose by 290 within the same period.
The vaccination data, which lags a day in France, revealed that 77% of people have been fully vaccinated.
