Gazprom ready to pump gas as much as needed - Putin

EPA-EFE/IRANIAN PRESIDENTIAL OFFICE HANDOUT

Russian President Vladimir Putin told the press that the nation's industry giant Gazprom is ready to increase deliveries of natural gas as much as needed and that the Kremlin-backed company is not to blame for the energy crisis.

Putin defended Gazprom, claiming that the restrictions placed against Moscow are the reason for a reduction in transit capacity. "They closed one route, the second route, put these gas pumping stations under sanctions. Gazprom is ready to pump as much as necessary, they are all themselves closed," Putin stated, shifting blames on the Western countries that have cut themselves off from the gas supply.

The leader made the comments following a trilateral summit, where he met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi.
