The production in Germany's manufacturing sector increased by 0.3% in April compared to the previous month, according to the data published by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Wednesday. Year-over-year, industrial production rose by 1.6%.
Construction output increased by 2% compared to April, rebounding from a 2.9% decline seen in March. The manufacturing of pharmaceutical products (+6.4%) contributed positively to the overall result. On the other hand, the manufacturing of motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts (-0.8%) and mechanical engineering (-0.5%) left a negative impact.
Excluding energy and construction, industrial production increased by 0.1%. The output of consumer goods recorded a 1.5% increase, while capital goods fell by 0.3% and intermediate goods by 0.2%. Energy production outside the industry decreased by 1.5% in the same period.
