German industrial output up 2.1% in February

EPA-EFE/FRIEDEMANN VOGEL

Industrial production in the German manufacturing sector rose 2.1% on a monthly basis in February, the country's Federal Statistical Office Destatis said in a provisional report released on Monday. The reading was higher than expected.

However, output in the energy production sector fell 6.5% in comparison to last month. The increase in production was largely driven by the 7.9% surge in construction, followed by 5.7% growth in the automotive industry and a 4.6% climb in the developments in the chemical industry.

Excluding energy and construction, Germany's industrial production decreased by 1.9% month-on-month and fell by 5.5% year-on-year.
