Chairman of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party and faction, Friedrich Merz (pictured), called on Thursday during a press conference for a confidence vote against the government of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
While Scholz is also in favor of the vote, he doesn't want it to take place before January 15, 2025. Speaking to ARD-Morgenmagazin, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock defended the date, saying that it would allow for an "orderly transition," which is important "in these uncertain times."
Yesterday, Scholz dismissed German Finance Minister Christian Lindner over disagreements with regard to economic and budget policy.
