German Economy Minister Robert Habeck shared on Thursday, addressing the Bundestag that Germany is "still not ready" to impose energy sanctions on Russia.

"We are still not ready to impose an embargo against Russian coal, oil, and gas," said Habeck adding that if Germany wants to make itself independent it needs to find other alternatives.

However, he underlined that Germany "will never make ourselves so dependent on one energy supplier again." He emphasized that "anyone who fights to get rid of fossil fuels is fighting for freedom. This is how we fight for Ukraine and for freedom."

Previously, Habeck announced that Germany would be free of Russian imports, primarily coal and oil by the end of 2022.
