Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Herzi Halevi (pictured) stated that the killing of seven aid workers by the IDF in the Gaza Strip was due to a "misidentification."

"It was a mistake that followed a misidentification, at night, during a war, in very complex conditions. It shouldn’t have happened," Halevi said, stressing that the IDF had no intention of "harming" aid workers employed by the World Central Kitchen (WCK). He announced the establishment of a new humanitarian command center to enhance the means of aid distribution in the Gaza Strip. Additionally, an independent investigative body will probe the incident and present its findings in the coming days.

"We are sorry for the unintentional harm to the members of WCK," Halevi expressed in a video statement.
