Senior Hamas official, Moussa Abu Marzouk, vowed that the killing of the group's political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, "won't go unpunished," the Hamas-run Al-Aqsa TV quoted Marzouk as having said.

"The assassination of leader Ismail Haniyeh was a cowardly act," Marzouk added. Hamas attributed his death to a "Zionist raid."

The Israeli military declined to comment on foreign media reports of Haniyeh's assassination, AFP reported.
