The United States House of Representatives on Thursday voted in favor of legislation that bars Russian oil from being imported into the US, in accordance with US President Joe Biden's announcement.
Not stopping at the oil import ban, the bill currently moving through Congress will also endorse a reexamination of Russia's place in the World Trade Organization (WTO) and further formalize the US' implementation of sanctions on Moscow's state officials concerning the alleged human rights transgressions.
Lawmakers of both parties have been willing to take action, ready to risk rising gas prices at home in order to display solidarity with Ukraine. After being approved in the US House, the bill moves to the US Senate for further consideration.
