House GOP says TikTok gave 'untrue or misleading' info

SOLEN FEYISSA/UNSPLASH

Cathy McMorris Rodgers and James Comer, two top Republican House representatives, accused social media giant TikTok of providing "untrue or misleading" information in the company's briefing submitted to a bipartisan Committee in September.

In a letter to TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew, the house members said that the company misrepresented facts by stating that it does not track United States users' locations and that China-based employees do not have access to such data. The Republicans relied on the opposite reports published by the American media and renewed the request for documents and information disclosure.

The move comes as calls for the app to be banned in the US intensified this month.
