Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Jonathan Conricus said on Sunday that the Hamas attacks on Israel will "generate an unprecedented response" that will be "unlike anything that we have done in the past." However, he insisted Israel will act in accordance with international law and be "very measured in its response." He said that "this is going to be a long and difficult war" and vowed that the IDF will "make Hamas pay the price that they have never paid before."
Conricus reported that the number of Hamas militants who crossed from Gaza into Israel on Saturday was in the "high hundreds" and that they attacked "dozens of Israeli communities and IDF bases." He added that Hamas fired over 3,000 rockets and taken a "significant number" of Israeli nationals hostage in Gaza. He said the situation is "still not fully under control" and that fighting continues in the south of the country.
