United States President Donald Trump's administration is supposedly planning to shut down over 120 Internal Revenue Service (IRS) offices that have taxpayer assistance centers, the Washington Post reported, citing a plan it obtained.
Some 128 taxpayer assistance centers will have their leases ended or not renewed when they expire, according to a list included in a Tuesday letter by the US General Services Administration. All short-term leases are expected to be terminated, apart from those identified as "public-facing." Those leases will be "reviewed on a case-by-case basis," the news agency said, citing the letter. It remains unclear whether the assistance centers would be relocated or simply closed.
IRS employees will have 120 days or more to leave the offices after the lessors are notified, which will be "in the immediate future," the letter said.
