The Israeli military's ground operation in Gaza's city of Rafah, which started during the night, will be "very limited" and does not represent the larger offensive that Israel has been announcing recently, CNN reported on Tuesday, citing a source briefed on Israeli plans.
According to the report, the Rafah operation is aimed at putting more pressure on Hamas to agree to a ceasefire and the liberation of the hostages. Additionally, the source said that Israel informed the United States of its plans to evacuate eastern Rafah and carry out military action.
Previously, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) revealed that it took over the Rafah border crossing with Egypt and killed 20 gunmen, while the Air Force struck over 50 Hamas positions in Rafah.
