Israeli forces launched a missile attack on the Syrian capital of Damascus and the southern parts of the country on Friday, Syria's state news agency SANA reported.

According to the report, Syrian forces activated air defense systems amid the attacks. Witnesses noted that "large explosions" were heard across the capital. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights noted Israel appeared to target areas including military sites.

In September, Israeli forces targeted the Damascus International Airport, reportedly killing five soldiers.
