The Israeli parliament voted in favor of adopting the key changes to the country's justice system as proposed under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plan on Monday.
The bill was approved by a 64-0 majority, according to the Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, after opposition legislators left the Knesset plenum in protest. The Reasonableness Standard Bill, which is part of a judicial overhaul plan, will bar the Supreme Court from overturning government decisions.
"In an extraordinary move, we took the first step in the historical process of correcting the judicial system and restoring the powers taken from the government and the Knesset over many years," the country's Justice Minister Yariv Levin said following the vote.
