The Italian government said on Thursday it plans to introduce new coronavirus-related restrictions to curb the spread of the Omicron variant. If the cabinet approves the notion, people will have to wear protective masks in all outdoor and indoor spaces.
Furthermore, nightclubs could also be closed until the end of the year to prevent new infections. COVID-19 health certificates, which are compulsory in Italy to use most public services, will have to be renewed after six months instead of nine by requesting booster vaccine doses.
The decision comes a day after Italy recorded over 36,000 COVID-19 cases in a day - the highest number of infections since November last year.
