Jan. 6 votes to hold Meadows in contempt of Congress

The select House committee handling the Capitol riot probe voted unanimously to hold former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows (pictured) in criminal contempt of Congress over his refusal to testify before the panel.

"Mr. Meadows started by doing the right thing — cooperating. He handed over records that he didn't try to shield behind some excuse. But in an investigation like ours, that's just a first step," Committee Chair Representative Bennie Thompson said.

The recommendations will be sent to the House, and if passed there, to the US Department of Justice (DoJ) for consideration of charges.
