Japan's annual inflation clocked in at 4% in December, the country's Statistic Bureau shared in a report released on Friday. The figure was slightly higher than expected, up from 3.8% in November and the highest since 1981. On a monthly basis, consumer prices remained unchanged at 0.2%.
Among the ten main groups of the index, the category corresponding to fuel, light, and water charges was the one that increased the most from a yearly point of view, registering an increase of 14.8%. Meanwhile, goods and food increased year-on-year by 5.5% and 4.5%, respectively.
National CPI excluding food and energy landed at 3.0% year-over-year, slightly higher than expected and than the 2.8% recorded in November.
