Former JPMorgan Chase & Co. executive Jes Staley's bid for the dismissal of a lawsuit, filed by the company in relation to the Jeffrey Epstein case, was rejected by the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York on Wednesday.
"After full consideration of the parties' written submissions and oral arguments, the Court hereby denies Mr. Staley's motion in full," Judge Jed Rakoff wrote in a ruling, adding that the reasons for his decision will be provided "in due course."
Earlier, in a third-party complaint, JPMorgan sued its ex-executive in an effort to protect itself from any lawsuits that could find the company guilty of facilitating Epstein's sex trafficking activities. Staley claimed that JPMorgan couldn't use him as a "public relations shield" for its own failures.
