Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Friday he has stepped down as a member of the British parliament upon receiving the Partygate report.
The report was produced by the parliament-led Privileges Committee, which was investigating whether he misled legislators about gatherings at Downing Street during strict COVID-19 lockdowns in England. Johnson accused the Commons inquiry of attempting to drive him out, insisting that the Committee hasn't produced any evidence that he knowingly or recklessly misled the House of Commons.
"Their purpose from the beginning has been to find me guilty, regardless of the facts. This is the very definition of a kangaroo court. Most members of the Committee - especially the chair - had already expressed deeply prejudicial remarks about my guilt before they had even seen the evidence. They should have recused themselves," Johnson noted in a lengthy statement.
