European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas insisted on Thursday that the bloc must be a part of any negotiations on peace in Ukraine and that leaving it behind will not be effective.
Speaking on the occasion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO) meeting in Brussels, Kallas stressed its support for Kiev amid the talks on the matter between the United States and Russia, namely presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. According to Kallas, that conversation includes certain potential conditions Ukraine has not previously agreed to.
Previously, Kallas, along with the foreign ministers of France, Germany, Poland, Spain, and the United Kingdom – Jean-Noel Barrot, Annalena Baerbock, Radoslaw Sikoroski, Jose Manuel Albares Bueno, and David Lammy, respectively – issued a statement in which they stressed that "Ukraine and Europe must be part of any negotiations."
