United States National Security Council (NSC) Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby underscored on Friday that Washington will take appropriate measures to protect itself following an attack on the US embassy in Baghdad.

In response to the correspondent's question on whether Washington will step up its response to attacks that have targeted American troops in the Middle East amid the war between Hamas and Israel, Kirby stressed: "We don't telegraph our punches."

Earlier today, it was reported that the US embassy in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad came under attack. Namely, 14 Katyusha rockets were fired in total, but no casualties were reported as a result of the attack.
