Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the Ministry of Defense to introduce a ceasefire "along the entire line of contact between the sides in Ukraine," starting from noon Moscow time, January 6, through midnight, January 7, the Kremlin press service revealed on Thursday.

The order was given following the "appeal of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, I," the statement noted. Due to the fact that many are celebrating Orthodox Christmas, Putin called on "the Ukrainian side to declare a ceasefire and give [the people] the opportunity to attend services on Christmas Eve, as well as on Christ's Nativity Day."

Kiev is yet to answer the aforementioned requests.
