European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde underscored on Thursday that the possibility of rate cuts was not a topic of discussion in the meeting among policymakers.
In response to the correspondent's question regarding whether the ECB was considering potential cuts as previously signaled by their colleagues at the Federal Reserve a day earlier, Lagarde pointed out that the central bank is inclined to maintain the interest rates at the current level before contemplating either tightening the monetary policy further or slashing the rates.
"Before hike and cut, there is a whole plateau of hold," Lagarde stressed. "Given certain resistance of domestic inflation and the risk of second-round effect...we are going to be very attentive to data," the ECB president said.
