European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde said on Thursday that the bank's governing council's consensus during today's meeting was that it is "premature to discuss rate cuts."
"One other thing, which was very much a consensus around the table was that we had to continue to be data dependent," Lagarde told reporters after the ECB decided to hold rates earlier in the day.
The ECB head stressed that the bank will continue to watch data concerning underlying inflation, as well as inflation expectations and latest inflation figures. She also noted that the Eurozone's inflation in December was weaker than the ECB expected despite rising from the previous month.
