London's Metropolitan Police announced on Tuesday that an investigation into a "number of events that took place at Downing Street and Whitehall in the last two years" is underway.
The law enforcement will be specifically looking into "potential breaches of COVID-19 regulations," UK capital's police commissioner Cressida Dick revealed. "Several other events" that had been also held at those two locations have not breached "the threshold for criminal investigation," she also noted.
At the same time, multiple UK news organizations reported that a separate investigation by senior civil servant Sue Gray will continue, although the release of her report is expected to be delayed in light of the Metropolitan Police's announcement.
