Luigi Mangione was formally indicted on Tuesday on murder charges for the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel earlier this month.
A New York grand jury decided to indict Mangione on 11 charges, including first-degree and second-degree murder, because Thompson was killed "in furtherance of an act of terrorism," the indictment showed.
The 26-year-old has been fighting extradition to New York following accusations that he fatally shot Thompson on December 4. He was arrested in Pennsylvania for gun possession, forgery and providing false identification.
