French President Emmanuel Macron told Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday that he is counting on him to "bring Russia to its senses" and bring all sides to the negotiating table. Macron is on a three-day visit to China, where he stressed yesterday that Beijing has a "major role to play" in the Ukraine peace process.

Xi praised China's relations with France, saying that the two countries have both the ability and the responsibility to overcome their differences. He added that the world is undergoing "profound changes" which require "restraints" from all parties.
