Macron says EU shouldn't join US-China conflict over Taiwan

French President Emmanuel Macron said the European Union should not involve itself in the United States-China confrontation over the status of Taiwan.

According to an interview published in the newspaper Les Echos on Sunday, Macron said that the bloc should not be drawn into conflicts between other nations and instead follow its own interests, adding that in his view if Brussels were to align itself with either China or the US, it would lose the opportunity to finance its strategic autonomy, becoming a vassal state.

"We should rid our model of risks, not depend on others, while maintaining the integration of our value chains where possible," he concluded.
