French President Emmanuel Macron urged Israel to "stop this bombing" of the Gaza Strip.
"De facto - today, civilians are bombed - de facto. These babies, these ladies, these old people are bombed and killed. So there is no reason for that and no legitimacy," he told BBC in an interview at the Elysee Palace on Friday.
Macron also acknowledged that Israel is "a partner and a friend" that is in "pain" and that France shares "their willingness to get rid of terrorism" but stressed that he hopes that other governments, such as French allies the United States and the United Kingdom, will be calling for a ceasefire.
