Major airlines cancel, divert flights amid Heathrow shutdown

Major airlines are scrambling to reschedule flights after a fire at an electrical substation in Hayes forced the closure of London Heathrow Airport on Friday.

British Airways, United Airlines, Air India, Aer Lingus, Virgin Atlantic, and Qantas have all issued updates, warning passengers of cancellations, diversions, and ongoing disruptions.

British Airways advised customers not to travel to the airport, calling the closure a "significant impact" on its operations. Virgin Atlantic canceled all flights until midday, possibly needing more changes. United Airlines confirmed that seven of its flights either returned or were rerouted. Air India sent planes back to Mumbai or diverted them to Frankfurt, while Aer Lingus halted all Heathrow flights. Qantas rerouted its long-haul services to Paris and arranged buses to go to London.
