Martin Schlegel has been appointed as the new president of the Swiss National Bank (SNB), succeeding Thomas Jordan on October 1, officials said in a statement on Wednesday.

Schlegel, currently the institution's vice president, has been with the SNB for over two decades. After today's decision, he will become the second-youngest chief in the SNB's history.

Jordan, who led the SNB through crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Credit Suisse collapse, steps down after twelve years.
