United States President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy failed to reach a consensus during a critical meeting at the White House on Tuesday over the federal debt and spending, the News York Times reported.
After the hours-long exchange, McCarthy stated that "nothing changed," and criticized the president for holding the country "hostage." However, both leaders reportedly agreed to meet again on Friday to continue the discussion.
The talks come just weeks before the nation is set to default on its obligations for the first time in hsitory.
