Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev suggested on Tuesday that France arrested Facebook's parent Meta Platform Inc. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mark Zuckerberg as it did with Telegram Messenger Inc. head Pavel Durov.
Speaking at a United Russia party meeting, Medvedev insisted that all the suspicious content that France accused Durov of being circulated on Telegram can be found on Facebook too. He also reiterated Moscow's stance that the arrest of Durov is a "political matter, no matter what" French President Emmanuel Macron "says about it being a purely legal issue."
Earlier in the day, the French authorities extended Durov's detention period for another 48 hours.
