Friedrich Merz, leader of Germany's Christian Democratic Union (CDU), said on Monday he is determined to hold talks with the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and form a government by Easter.
During a press conference, the winner of the latest German elections said that one of his top priorities for future negotiations is foreign policy. He will emphasize relations with the US and the defense of Europe. He will also discuss migration and the country's economic situation.
On the Alternative for Germany (AfD) performance, Merz added that the AfD achievement is a "warning sign to the democratic centre to solve the problems." However, he also declared it is time "to hold swift talks with the SPD and form a government."
