Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is planning to deliver the first generation of its augmented reality (AR) glasses in 2024, The Verge reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the company's roadmap.
Sources said that the tech giant intends to launch the second generation which would be lighter and feature a more advanced design in 2026, while a third generation of the glasses is planned for 2028. Meta refused to comment on the report.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg (pictured) announced plans for AR glasses at the company's rebranding event in October. In January, reports emerged that Meta halted the development of its own operating system that was set to support the company's virtual reality and augmented reality devices.
