Gas consumption in the European Union dropped by 20.1% between August and November this year compared to the same period between 2017 and 2021, Eurostat reported on Tuesday. In August, the bloc set a 15% reduction target as part of an effort to wean itself off Russian gas imports.
Finland saw the greatest drop in gas demand at 52.7%, followed by Latvia at 43.2% and Lithuania at 41.6%. Ireland, Spain, Czechia and Portugal have not yet reached the 15% threshold, while Malta and Slovakia have increased consumption by 7.1% and 2.6% respectively.
