S. Korea successfully launches space rocket Nuri

The South Korean government confirmed on Tuesday that the country has successfully launched its homegrown space rocket Nuri. The Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) earlier said that the 200-ton Nuri would blast off from the Naro Space Center in the southern coastal village of Goheung at around 4:00 pm local time.

The lift-off was scheduled for last Thursday after a failed attempt last year. However, a technical issue related to the oxidizer tank sensor prompted a slight delay. South Korea has become the seventh country worldwide to have developed a space rocket that can carry large satellites.

Nuri reached an altitude of 700 kilometers before deploying a dummy satellite and completing all flight sequences, the government noted.
