North Korea fired six more missiles into the East Sea and the Yellow Sea, South Korea's military said Wednesday in what appears to be the worst escalation in the region in decades after a total of 23 missiles were registered in the past 24 hours.
Pyongyang launched the latest batch of missiles between 16:30 and 17:10 local time toward the East Sea from the Sondok and Sinpo regions, and toward the Yellow Sea from the Kwail and Onchon regions.
Previously, at least 17 ballistic missiles had been registered south of the Northern Limit Line (NLL). In response, South Korea fired three air-to-surface missiles from airplanes into the sea north of the disputed border. An action that was followed, again, by North Korea firing more than 100 artillery rounds into the East Sea maritime buffer zone.
