Netanyahu arrives in Hungary defying ICC arrest warrant

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in Budapest early Thursday for a state visit. Hungarian Defense Minister Kristof Szalay-Bobrovniczky welcomed Netanyahu, writing on social media "Welcome to Budapest, Benjamin Netanyahu!"

The trip comes as Netanyahu faces an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) over alleged war crimes in Gaza. He is visiting at the invitation of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

While Hungary did ratify the Rome Statute Act, which binds a country to commit to the ICC's requests, back in 2001, it technically didn't incorporate it into its national legal system, making the legal situation somewhat blurry on whether it is obligated to enforce this warrant, despite being urged to.
