Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has tried to convince the United States against selling F-35 military jets to Turkey, the Middle East Eye reported on Monday.
According to two sources familiar with the matter, Netanyahu addressed the issue in his many calls with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in March and April. He also allegedly wants to discuss the matter with US President Donald Trump during their meeting at the White House.
Netanyahu's efforts came amid concerns about Turkey's influence in Syria, which propelled Israel to strike some targets in the latter country. Ankara slammed the move, labeling Israel as "the greatest threat to the security of our region."
