Netflix Inc. told employees it aims to start rolling out ads in the last three months of 2022, the New York Times reported on Tuesday citing an internal note. The company previously announced plans to introduce ads as a way to increase revenue without raising subscription costs, after it revealed its subscriber count dropped by 200,000 in the first quarter of 2022.
Netflix told employees the decision is "fast and ambitious and it will require some trade-offs," according to the report. "Every major streaming company excluding Apple has or has announced an ad-supported service. For good reason, people want lower-priced options," it argued.
