UNSPLASH/STANISLAV VDOVIN

Incoming Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said in his inaugural speech on Wednesday that he will lead the Israeli military to victory. Addressing the conflict with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, he said the IDF's "moral duty" is to bring home the rest of the hostages held by Hamas "in any way possible and as quickly as possible."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also spoke at the chief of staff handover ceremony, stating that "with the support of our friends in the US, first and foremost President Trump, we are bringing to Israel right now a lot of weapons that are critical to our security." He said Israel is also increasing domestic production, which will reduce the country's reliance on military support from allies.
