Northern Ireland's First Minister Arlene Foster (pictured) stated on Wednesday she will step down from her post as the country's executive branch chief.
In an interview with Sky News, Foster added she will also abandon her position at the helm of the Democratic Unionist Party after more than 75% of the party members signed a letter calling for the change of leadership.
"It is important to give space over the next few weeks for the Party Officers to make arrangements for the election of a new leader," her statement read, describing the time spent as the country's leader as "the privilege of [her] life," and calling for unity among the party members.
