Official Turkish election results show Erdogan ahead

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is in the lead in the nation's presidential race, the first official results announced by the head of Turkey's Supreme Election Council showed, solidifying the incumbent leader's position as the frontrunner.

With 54.6% of the ballots counted, Erdogan is said to have garnered 54.5% of support, as his opponent, opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu, remains behind with 45.5% of the vote.

The official data confirmed the outcome first reported by local media in sets of preliminary unofficial results.
